This figure of Yeorae sitting on chair is a work in relief on a big rock as high as 6m.
This rare figure of Buddha sitting on chair is Mireuk Buddha. It, together with the Jijang Bodhisattva carved on the nearby rock, tells us what kind of temple Beopjusa is, Round and gentle face, long and big nose, round eyebrows, conspicuous upper eyelids, and tightly closed thick mouth lips, together with long ears and three necklines, shows well the characteristic style of Ma-e Buddha in the early Koryeo period.
The uniquely thin waist compared with the wide shoulders demonstrates the unrealistic style of carving it.
The Ma-e figure on the right side of this Ma-e Buddha engraved on the rock is argued by some to be a rock carving of the prehistoric age. But, considering the fable around the founding of Beopjusa in which Eoisin Josa, the founder, carried Buddhism scriptures and oxen sought the Buddhism truth, it is presumed to be related with the fable.
